Open or Closed Canvas Stretching?
There are two processes that can be used for canvas stretching. Canvases can be stretched either over an ‘open’ or ‘closed’ frames. Bidvest Soho custom manufactures frames in house for both processes.
‘Open’ Canvas Stretching
Open canvas stretching is a process where a canvas print or oil painting is fitted to a wooden frame that has re-enforced corners and is open on the inside. The canvas is stretched over the framework and stapled to the frame on the inside edge.
‘Closed’ Canvas Stretching
Normal canvas stretching is a process where a wooden frame is made with supawood and then a 3mm novalite sheet is fixed to the frame forming a box without a top. The printed canvas, oil painting or even printed silk is then stretched over the box and stapled on the edge.
